Elmwood – Historic Charm and Greenbelt Living in Oak Cliff

Tucked into the gently rolling hills of North Oak Cliff, Elmwood is a tree-lined neighborhood known for its eclectic homes, expansive greenbelt, and welcoming community—just 15 minutes from downtown Dallas.

Originally the site of the Tennessee Dairy Farm in the early 1900s, the land was transformed into a residential development by Frank G. Jester in 1924. Over the following three decades, a variety of homes were built, including Tudor cottages, Craftsman bungalows, 1930s wood and brick cottages, and ranch-style homes from the 1940s and ’50s. Many still feature native stone, hardwood floors, and vintage architectural details that give the neighborhood its timeless character.

Elmwood’s natural heart is the Elmwood Parkway, a lush greenbelt that follows Cedar Creek and Rugged Branch. This stretch of mature trees and native vegetation offers a peaceful escape and includes a mile-long walking trail, a crossing to Kiest Park, and the beloved Elmwoof, the only dog park in Southern Dallas. It’s common to see neighbors jogging, walking dogs, or enjoying a morning stroll under the canopy of oaks.
