L.O. Daniel – A Historic Gem in Northern Oak Cliff

Located in northern Oak Cliff, the L.O. Daniel neighborhood is a charming and historically significant residential area known for its early 20th-century homes, tree-lined streets, and unique architectural character. The neighborhood is bounded by Hampton Road to the west, Jefferson Boulevard to the south, Rosemont Avenue to the east, and Davis Street (SH 180) to the north. Its rich history and distinct homes continue to make it one of Oak Cliff’s most beloved communities.

A Legacy That Dates Back to 1901

The neighborhood is named for Lark Owen Daniel, a successful Dallas businessman who, in 1901, purchased a 27-acre tract of land that would become the foundation for this neighborhood. In 1905, Daniel built his family home, Cedar Crest, which still stands today and was named a City of Dallas historic landmark in 1984. This original homestead anchors the neighborhood’s historical roots and sets the tone for its architectural legacy.

Early Development and Lasting Architecture

Development in L.O. Daniel unfolded from the 1920s through the 1940s. The area is primarily composed of single-family homes, though several late-1930s duplexes still exist.
